Filecoin just introduced something big Filecoin Onchain Cloud a decentralized cloud platform that gives developers verifiable storage, fast retrieval, and programmable payments, all fully on-chain. The announcement was made live at DePIN Day Buenos Aires, hosted by Fluence, and early partners include projects like ENS, KYVE, Safe, Monad, Storacha, Geo Podcasts, and others already building with it.
At its heart, the idea is simple: Web3 shouldn’t go offline when a centralized cloud provider has an outage. Yet, that’s exactly what happened multiple times this year. Big portions of the crypto ecosystem were disrupted because they still rely on Amazon-style infrastructure. Filecoin is stepping directly into that gap offering a permissionless cloud built on proof, not trust.
Molly Mackinlay, CEO of FilOz, put it succinctly: “Builders deserve a cloud based on proofs, not promises.” The entire platform is designed so that developers whether working on dApps, AI agents, knowledge systems, or DePIN networks can build knowing their data isn’t dependent on one centralized entity with a master switch.
The Filecoin Onchain Cloud expands what the Filecoin network can do by pairing verifiable storage with smart contract logic and transparent payment rails. Its first dev tool, Filecoin Pin, offers a simple way to reliably persist IPFS content on the Filecoin network without having to re-architect entire workflows.
At launch, a suite of core services is available through the Synapse SDK. Warm Storage keeps content online with verifiable uptime, Filecoin Pay automates payments based on usage and metrics, and Filecoin Beam enables on-chain-measured retrieval letting developers monitor performance and even monetize data services.
A wave of teams is already experimenting with the new stack:
ERC-8004 / Agent0
Agent identity and metadata are now pinned on Filecoin, enabling transparent, tamper-proof agent discovery.
ENS + Safe
Together with Filecoin Onchain Cloud, they form a censorship-resistant hosting layer for frontends with decentralized naming and multi-sig governance.
Monad
Builders using Monad’s AI Blueprint program can deploy Filecoin-based storage endpoints that underpin fast, verifiable AI systems.
KYVE
Currently using Filecoin to store chain data from ecosystems including Celestia and Story, dramatically scaling data persistence.
Akave Cloud
Offering a seamless mix of high-performance hot storage and low-cost decentralized archival.
Storacha
Delivering high-throughput verifiable storage, with pricing built for AI-scale data operations.
Geo Podcasts
Ensuring that podcast metadata and discovery information remain publicly verifiable and censorship-resistant.
Marta Belcher, President & Chair of the Filecoin Foundation, emphasized the milestone: “FOC unlocks critical capabilities that push forward the Filecoin mission to build a more open, resilient, verifiable internet.”
For now, Filecoin Onchain Cloud is live on testnet, with a mainnet rollout scheduled for January 2026. Developers can explore more at filecoin.cloud.
