Canaan just unveiled its latest gadgets at CES 2025 — and they’re not your typical Bitcoin miners. The company launched the Avalon Mini 3 and Avalon Nano 3S, two new devices designed to make mining more accessible and, in the case of the Mini 3, keep your house warm while you earn crypto.
Yep, that’s right — the Avalon Mini 3 is both a Bitcoin miner and a space heater.
Mining + Heating in One
The Avalon Mini 3 features a hash rate of 37.5 TH/s and comes with an easy-to-use mobile app. But what really makes it stand out is its built-in heating function. Instead of letting all that mining energy go to waste, the device recycles it to warm up your home — a clever way to cut down energy bills while stacking sats.
The Avalon Nano 3S, on the other hand, is a smaller, beginner-friendly miner with a 6 TH/s hash rate — perfect for those just getting into the game.
Plug-and-Play Simplicity
Both devices were built with regular folks in mind — think plug-and-play, energy-efficient, and easy to control. Canaan CEO NG Zhang said the idea was to create mining gear that’s not only practical but also eco-conscious.
“The Avalon Mini 3’s ability to generate cryptocurrency while heating your home is a perfect example of our vision for sustainable, multi-purpose technology,” he said.
Not the First to Mix Heat With Hashing
While it’s a cool concept, it’s not totally new. Back in 2017, a Florida distillery used ASIC miners to help speed up rum production while mining crypto. A year later, French startup Qarnot dropped the QC-1, a heater specifically designed to mine Bitcoin.
More recently, companies like Heatbit and D-Central have rolled out similar dual-purpose products, showing there’s definitely a growing niche for tech that blends utility with profitability.
Canaan’s move signals a push to make home mining more mainstream — and a bit more practical, especially in colder climates.
